They were offering Joe $1.2 million – a massive amount of money in a lot of people’s book though still not quite as huge as the figure that he had felt in his hands when he was unpacking the wads of money. Also, he didn’t like that they were strong-arming him. He wondered if he should give the money back but something was telling him that wasn’t the right thing to do either.

Joe had been told very clearly to leave everything the way he had found it. However, there is a limit to how long you can keep a man’s curiosity at bay. He had to find out the content of the tapes. That night, Joe got the plastic bag where the tapes had been sealed in, carefully opened it, and popped one tape into an old VCR. Then, he pressed play.
