Before Jimmy Fallon said Winnie Cooper was “the coolest girl in any TV show ever,” she used to study acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles at the weekend. In 1988, she ended up landing her leading role in The Wonder Years, and the series went until 1993. McKellar did play the romantic interest of young Fred Savage on the ABC sitcom, and actually, her first smooch was on camera.

Danica McKellar also spoke just as she left The Wonder Years about her suffering to shift from being such a young actress to an adult actress. She was able to find a job but often in small, very seldom more than several season-long support roles. In 2005, McKellar wore lingerie in Stuff magazine for a feature and said afterward that this was an effort to reach a “grittier” role.
