California
California is one of the five top states that work in the high-tech industry and has the largest economy in the United States. As for the number of independent inventor patents, California still leads the country. The state is known for its fashion and entertainment industries, as well as being a pioneer in technology. The state counts 280 universities and colleges, including Stanford, Caltech, and California University, whose campuses are all in the top 25 research universities in the nation, Berkeley, Davis, and Los Angeles.
Oregon
Lately, the state has managed to turn to manufacture and marketing employment with a technological focus. It has also emerged as a winemaking area and is tied for the most inventor patents to California, Massachusetts, and Washington. Intel is the state’s biggest employer. Nike, Precision Castparts Corp., Daimler Trucks North America, and Adidas America are also major employers. Oregon is home to Willamette University, founded in 1842 and the oldest Western United States university. Both the University of Portland and the Oregon Institute of Technology are ranked in the top 10 in the region.
