You see, Theda Bara wore a lot of very racy costumes in the movie. In fact, the Hays Code deemed the film “obscene” for that reason. There are churches that found copies of it, only to destroy them. What we know is that the actress donned a snake-like metal bikini for the film. This sort of outfit would still be considered risqué even in this day and age. There is a list of cuts that they had to make that continue to survive. Among other things, there are references to cutting out “snake breast plates” and an “objectionable costume” from the film.
