It’s no surprise because the Amish just marry people from their families because they require someone who can support their faith. Asking someone to alter their habits and attitudes to match is daunting. In the Amish culture, though, there are several significant dating restrictions. It is illegal to date anyone who has not been baptized into the Amish community. You can’t date until you’ve been admitted into the party. Not to mention the fact that dating occurs only in public spaces.

Every significant life experience in the Amish culture requires careful consideration and includes the whole community. People cannot just get engaged and marry without the consent of anyone. When a couple begins dating, it doesn’t take long for them to become engaged. If the man proposes, he and his fiancee must obtain approval from the church. Since the church has blessed them, they are free to marry.
