Peggy said during the talk how much she dreaded the day he would be called up. Peggy discussed how the wives of the guys were housed at a motel while their husbands were imprisoned in Tallahassee. The wives were given orders at the hotel to come home and tell no one, including their closest family, of their husbands’ whereabouts. As a result, Peggy did what the other ladies did: she said goodbye to her husband and hoped that he and the other guys arrived safely. Billie and Peggy had only lately realized that they had been married for only six weeks, which was a brief yet wonderful era in their lives.

After returning home to their own homes, the women went about their everyday lives while keeping the secrets they were expected to keep to themselves. As time passed, they began to receive word one by one that their loved ones had arrived safely. This was one of the last bits of information Peggy would get about the issue… Peggy never received any additional intelligence or information about her husband for the rest of the conflict. Lieutenant Billie Harris, her husband, had vanished without a trace, and his loyal wife had no idea where he was. Within the army, there were considerable problems with bureaucracy and management, resulting in information being regularly miscommunicated and misplaced.
