Staff Refused To Serve This Man His Order, They Were In Utter Disbelief When He Showed Up The Next Day

Better Not To Know

Why she would just not serve him, she would also not clear.  He didn’t join the queue to be handled like this for 45-minutes. And so he was undoubtedly not used to folks refusing to obey his instruction or having to look at him like this – no one should ever be! She seemed to have no clue who he really was or what power he had at his fingertips; it really was completely obvious. So when she found out, he just can not wait to see her face.

A Much Needed Day Off

For Alexandria, the VA man, Karl Baker, this was a much deemed necessary day off. He was quite fully prepared to relax and unwind after having to work a number of 12-hour shifts. He had arranged his day out already. With just a drink in his hand, he was going to be sleeping in, eat out, explore the city and wrap up the day lounging in front of the TV. But situations aren’t about to go as expected.

Lunch Time

Baker woke up to his dog hopping on his bed, the sun was shining on his face, and lunchtime had already come. He got ready, began pouring a cup of coffee for himself, and did think about where he might go to have a good brunch. Decided, he jumped in his vehicle and started heading for a restaurant he had not been to on the outskirts of town previously. That was a choice that he’d dread afterward.

Joining The Line

With absolute disdain, they began to look at him. This had been a long period of time since Baker was being confronted with certain utter disregard. Normally, his chosen profession managed to keep him from being treated so badly, but nobody here did know who he really was. Baker walked into the restaurant and decided to join the line. As he looks at the menu on the wall, his starvation started to grow, so as the time that he waited in line.

Joining The Line

Bad Choice

His pick had long been limited down to two meals. Baker was wonderful in several aspects, though one way he had always been renowned for just being a picky eater. He was selective, to say the very least, so he had great expectations that his research will indeed pay off when he did decide on a diner. He was convinced that waiting in line would be good enough to justify the 45-minute wait. He was completely wrong.

Bad Choice

Bad Choice

Waiting For A Long Time

Even though waiting to make a purchase was an uncommonly long time, Baker was indeed a patient person. However and pretty shortly, this statement about that trait was to be driven far beyond the boundary. He was totally hungry and excited to purchase by the moment Baker actually arrived behind the till. However, what next occurred would have sent his head spinning.

Not A Good Day

Baker greeted the cashier respectfully, who welcomed him back with such an appearance that strongly resembles frustration and perhaps irritation. She had been munching gum and did look as though she was not having a decent day, evidently. Even so, while ordering his meals, he persisted in smiling. He did understand that life has not always been rainbows as well as apple drops, as Baker absolutely loved to make people smile when he could. However, it was definitely not for this employee.

Not Available

Baker ordered and then was shocked to hear her tell that it was impossible to produce his initial order. He was unhappy, but some other choices were still available. He switched to his second option, which was once again not available. Befuddled, he glanced at the list and requested the only other meal he desired at the restaurant. She started rolling her eyes, repeating her previous reply.

Poor Attitude

Now it irritated Baker. He was really just spending so much time queueing up for food that has been highlighted under today’s special offers in chalk. He would not have stood in line if he had known that these meals were not available. And her implacably poor attitude didn’t help the situation. He still hindered his discontent and started asking if there was anything on the list which was not outlined.

You Need To Leave

She started rolling her eyes once more and started to look at him disapprovingly, as if to claim, telepathically, that perhaps the query he was asking was stupid. Now, her behavior was just too much, alongside their misleading advertising. He had much to say. However, before he can even open his mouth, it was as if she were reading his thoughts. “Listen, mister, if you’re not going to order, you need to leave,”  she snarled.

Making A Scene

“That’s it!” thought Baker. He stayed in place and then said nonchalantly, “Can I speak to your manager?”   She walks to the side without even a word and shouts at the back of the kitchen. She returns her empty stare at Baker, and then in answer to her call, a lady came out. She begins to look at Baker and then at the queue behind him, “What’s the problem here sir, you’re holding up the people behind you.”

The Manager

Baker saw where the employee got her behavior. He recognizes this is not really going to be fun and interesting. He ignored the demeaning accusation that he’s the reason for such ridiculous lines and tried to explain to her about what had actually occurred as well as how the issue he observes in her establishment must be fixed by management. Her comment was unexpected.

After that, extremely, a female cook happened to come to the register to notify the manager, “You better pull me off the line because I’m not serving him,” pointing to Baker. He decided to wait for action from the manager, but she started laughing. Baker managed to keep his cool and informed them respectfully to handle their clients better, or consequences will indeed occur.

Men Like Him

She didn’t want to listen to his recommendation, much like Baker anticipated.  “I understand that things didn’t go your way today, sir, but that’s life. Now, if you could kindly remove yourself from my establishment. I don’t serve men like you,”  she scoffed.  “Men like me?!” Baker responded incredulously. What was it that she meant by ‘men like him’?

Men Like Him

Enough Is Enough

Baker’s got enough. He was no longer playing Mr. Nice Guy. Trying to speak with greater authority, in conversing with her, he reaffirmed his objective and guaranteed her that he has been saying things for her own benefit. Now, he requested that she explain what she implied by “men like him.” But what she’s doing next will end up settling any doubts about retaliation in his thought.

Don’t Look Down On Me

Cold-faced as well as arrogant, she seemed to be. “I don’t need to explain what I meant to anyone. Get on out now before you cause a scene,” she said. He wasn’t used to folks refusing to obey this kind of order. And definitely, he wasn’t used to others looking down on him.

Without His Uniform

She seemed to have no clue who he really was or even what power he had at his fingertips; this was completely obvious. Without his uniform, he frequently figured strolling around was a great way of seeing what folks were really like. And it managed to prove this. To Baker, it really was fairly obvious that she’s not going to be talking to him like an older person. As bystanders began taking notice, he felt totally mistreated and mocked.

The Audacity

He began to look around at some of the ears and eyes that were paying him interest. As he came to realize, almost everybody in the restaurant has been staring at him, his face turned red. He didn’t even recognize anyone there, but he started wondering if some of the customers had identified him. They definitely wouldn’t even have assumed that a restaurant has the audacity to address him like this if they did.

Won’t Let It Go Unpunished

Baker decided to leave the restaurant without anything even more to speak. He was frustrated, enraged, and embarrassed by their conduct, conduct that he couldn’t just let go unpunished. In the uniform that gives an indication to address and start serving everyone with respect, he was going to overlook the disturbing beginning of his day and come back to come to terms with this awful experience tomorrow during normal working hours. How will they then respond?

Man In Uniform

Baker throws on his police chief’s attire the next day and went back to work. He had such a lot to work on. He had been preoccupied, but he had promised himself that he would call the restaurant and reveal his true face. He just can not sit tight to have seen them in their boots, trembling.

Baker decided to stop by on his journey back from some kind of call-out on the area at the restaurant. Lucky to find parking, he pulled his cruiser up and pushed through the doorways. His face looked strict. The aura of his appearance loaded the whole restaurant. Baker was indeed a broad, big guy, and he seemed to embody power with his uniform on.

Now with all the best of reasons, they were all looking at him. With smiling faces and honor, he was approached. Even the expressions of all of the employees, as well as the checkout person, who’s now somewhat more attentive, unexpectedly lightened up. With a smiling face that started to fade gradually once she identified him, she greeted him. Dumping formalities, he requested the manager.

Where’s The Manager?

The cashier tentatively appealed to the manager. That being said, she started walking to the back kitchen door this moment and screamed. Now it seemed, she seemed to be mindful of her manners. Baker did stand resting on his waist belt with one hand and the other carrying a radio device. He played the part for obvious reasons. Especially since with officer notifications, his radio call bleeped. He was waiting to see her show up.

It Went Viral

A different manager was working at the moment, however. However, she was quite distraught, by what Baker tried to tell her and offered an apology right away. She as well pledged to release an internal review into her co-worker’s doings.   The tale managed to reach social networking sites briefly after bystanders who have been there reported about the officer’s mishandling. Now the restaurant had to come out with a statement.

They Did Not Deny

When questioned more about the officer’s disturbing treatment, a representative for the restaurant didn’t attempt to deny the allegations. She told media that just as Baker had defined, everything had actually occurred. The restaurant was shocked that so much disrespect had been shown to a law enforcement officer and agreed to look more into the issue. But would it really be sufficient?

Discrimination

“I don’t know why the offended officer doesn’t sue for $150,000. This is NO DIFFERENT than the Oregon bakery’s refusing to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. Discrimination is discrimination!” one enraged reader decided to write, whereas another took a more rational view. “We are working with the appropriate authorities and local police association representatives to get to the bottom of and resolve this matter as quickly as possible,” added in a statement.

Trying To Save Face

“We have made efforts to reach out to the police officer involved but have not yet spoken with him. We will continue to look into the situation and will take the appropriate actions at the conclusion of this review.” The tale immediately started doing all the cycles on Twitter and Facebook, even after the urge of the establishment to save face, to the uproar of thousands of users.

Outraged Responses

“I don’t know why the offended officer doesn’t sue for $150,000. This is awful behavior that can easily be considered a breach of customer rights,” one enraged reader stated, while yet another took a more principled perception. “If I was a cop, I’d be way less concerned about these people who are openly anti-police than I would about what someone quietly harboring resentment and handling my food.”

Good Relationship

Although Representative Pete Feltham of the Alexandria Police Union applauded the restaurant because of its coordination and quick apology, the damage was already done when the restaurant hurried outside of the restaurant to place banners trying to support law enforcement officers. He incorporated that he believed that Baker “handled the situation perfectly” — instead of intensifying the clash, he disconnected. He however, said that he had been shocked that in Alexandria, an event like this occurred because the police force usually has a fantastic relation with citizens and local businesses.

No Turning Back

Yet, none of Feltham’s statements did something to soothe the public’s outrage. On the restaurant’s Facebook page, thousands of comments have been left, grumpily notifying them that they were starting to be boycotted completely and promoting other customers to do so as well. There was even discussion among people on social media about stealing from the restaurant after the incident. Baker decided to make his stance on this simple, nevertheless.

Two Wrongs Do Not Make A Right

He said that as a consequence of this, he is not really in favor of ‘cancel culture,’, and neither does he want to see criminal activity arise in the restaurant. He also prevents anybody from attempting to stop supporting the establishment.  “Take the high road!” he said. “The actions of a few do not equate to the actions of many.”  Two wrongs, after therefore do not make a right.

The Backlash

The restaurant focused efforts on its promise in responding to the immense number of criticism. As per The Washington Post, they made an official statement just under a week afterward. “In a statement, the company said that ‘the views and actions of these individuals’ were ‘inexcusable’ and do not reflect those of the company or the rest of the staff at the Duke Street location,” said the source.

Resulted To Dismissal

“We have concluded the two team members in question acted inappropriately and we immediately terminated their employment,” the establishment stated in the follow-up remark. “We have the utmost respect for law enforcement officials and value the relationship we have built with the local Alexandria Police Department over the years.”

Going Out Of Their Way

Baker was tracked by the night manager as well as the restaurant to make an apology for the horrifying behaviour and attitude of a three members of staff and to fully intend to go out of their way to make it evident to anyone and everyone that they support law enforcement. The circumstance even caught the attention of the Mayor of Alexandria, Allison Silberberg. She said she appreciated the “full-throated apology of the company for this unfortunate situation.” But how would other law enforcement members feel about this problem?

What Did The Others Say?

“Well, your first response as a police officer is anger,” said by the head of police to the station. “These are very difficult times right now with our relations with everyone, and to have one of my officers treated in that manner unnecessarily – your first response is anger, then you calm down a bit.” A waitress decided to step in when she saw a similar incident taking shape.

“Suck It Up”

Britanny can feel the outrage forming within her. She just can’t believe that such a rude person does exist. She never asked for it. These people was trying to get her agree with them all along. She went to the manager but was just told to suck it up. How can such thing happened to her?

The Couple

For the past couple of years, Brittany Spencer had already been waitressing and she figured she had seen everything. In Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, almost any type of individual arrived through Fat Joe’s Bar & Grill. But when an elderly couple came through the door, initially she thought nothing of it.

They Looked Around The Diner

Their gestures started to change when they sat down. Brittany knew immediately that it was going to be really tough. The couple looked all over the restaurant, slapping their faces with frustration, as if they’ve been stepping into their terrible nightmare. Reasonable enough, it was not a diner with Michelin stars, however the food is great.

She Smelled Something Awful

Brittany had her first observations rejected. With her charming personality, she thought she might also make them laugh. And yet she did not have a clue how completely mistaken she had been. She approached as well as decided to offer menus for them. As she decided to hand them menu options, there hasn’t been a hello back. The lady crinkled her nose as if she had did smell a nasty thing. This table was going to be a tough one.

She stepped away, and she could see the pair watching and laughing at yet another client in the edge of the restaurant when she did turn around. A frequent and also very friendly client was the focus of their bile.

The pair were deep in discussion as well as largely ignorant that Brittany was waiting on another table next to them. The ears of Brittany twitched and she paid attention to their chat. When she heard what they were saying, she was in complete shock. How can they such a thing to a person they didn’t even know?

Vile Judgment

As Brittany went to them to start taking their request, they decided to ask her what she think about the “other client”. They questioned Brittany if she believed it was as horrible and disgusting as they obviously did, also asking why someone like that will be allowed anywhere near diner. Nothing other than unpleasant judgment filled their old faces.

“I Can’t Serve You”

“Sorry, but I can’t serve you. And I don’t agree with what you said,” she replied to the elderly couple before walking away from them. She didn’t simply abandon it at that, though and started asking her manager if the table could otherwise be allocated to some other staff member. But situations were just about to become tangled even further.

“Suck It Up Or Go Home”

Her manager continued to refuse, having to tell her basically that she should “suck it up or go home.” Brittany realized she was unable to start serving the table with clients who carried such awful views on a human being, to not even take into consideration attempting to make one of her regulars feel very uncomfortable. So she picked up her bag and barged through the door. But the consequences of her behavior were just about to unfold.

Everybody Is On Her Side

Brittany decided to share what has just took place on Facebook that night after work. People have responded, commending Brittany for trying to stand up for herself, and many even named the restaurant where the incident had been taken place. oBrittany let out a breath of relief as she turned ff her laptop and tucked away into her bed. Everybody is on her side, she thought.

She Was Fired

Management told Brittany the very next day that she had been dismissed! Exploding with rage, she snatched her laptop and proceeded to Facebook immediately. On the horrible development, she updated everybody. The responses have been intense.  “But I’ll always choose my morals over money. See ya!” she indicated. But the restaurant’s owners do have very contrary viewpoints.

Neutral Approach Didn’t Work

The restaurant’s co-owner made a comment that Brittany had been dismissed since she rejected to go and do the work for which she was appointed. She said that she got to hear a couple of discussions throughout her years in industry that she did not agree with herself, but you just get along and do your task. That being said, their neutral approach did not sooth the stormy waters.

Blind Eye

Brittany, as well as others, said that was turning a blind eye to enable racism to take place in your institution with little or no response—which she perceives as being the same as simply stating one’s own hurtful things. But Brittany was still thinking that she had made the right call. As to the diner’s present circumstances as well as principles?

Continue The Same Approach

Brittany ended her viral post on facebook with: “Please feel free to leave a review on their Facebook page, Fat Joe’s Bar and Grill.” They started to receive far too much hatred that their page on facebook had to have been momentarily removed, but it’s up once more. Also a handful of in-person demonstrations compelled the diner to contact the cops not long after the circumstance made headlines. Even after everything, they declare that their daily operations has not been significantly impacted by the incident and that they will proceed with much the same moral approach. Yet there was one crucial feature that they deliberately missed out, which many individuals neglected.

Just Taking The Order

Brittney behaved with sufficient professional competence that she politely asked, which is not really a huge request, to change tables. The initial response of the manager (“suck it up”) discloses the mentality towards the convenience of their staff member, and what about being permitted to deny service for customers attempting to impose viewpoints on somebody who just wishes to take their request? And what they’d have to tell to the owners, Joe as well as Whitney Wallander?

“Everybody Has Their Opinions”

In a question and answer session with CBS, “Everybody has their opinions, everybody is entitled to their opinions,” said Whitney, co-owner of Fat Joe’s. Whitney as well goes on to say she as well as her management group managed to make the decision to let Brittany go home but they didn’t actually fire her.

Some staff members at the diner decided to show the Wallenders screen captures of the thread Brittney had done about the incident on Facebook prior to the team meeting that Sunday morning. While Fat Joe’s was not directly mentioned in the thread, Tad Wallender said Brittany’s Facebook account listed Fat Joe’s as her workplace. This, he stated, directly linked together the post as well as the restaurant.

Unprofessional

To be openly criticized out on Facebook, Tad as well as Whitney didn’t take too kindly. Each establishment has a reputation to protect, simply put. Tad was worried that perhaps the stance of Brittany had changed the perception of the entire thing, asserting on Brittany’s part that it was very inappropriate. She was immediately fired when Brittany showed up at the team meeting.

Living With People That Have Different Opinions

“She decided she wanted to post stuff on Facebook about being sent home. And we just made the business decision that we can’t have employees that aren’t going to make us look good as an establishment. We should be able to get along as a community. Everyone has different opinions, and I think it’s important that we know how to live with people that have different opinions than us,” Whitney said.

Taking Pride In Their Decisions

“We don’t take a stand on any conversation people have. We’re not going to impose anyone’s political beliefs, moral beliefs, ideals on any single person. We’re just here to serve food and drinks,” Tad mentioned to the USA TODAY. Although the shareholders of the diner take pride in their decisions, others make the argument they should’ve just made a better choice.

They Shut Down Their Facebook Page

In recent months, discrimination has been in media and political limelight, and initiatives that wish to increase awareness of the issue are striving hard than it has ever been. And so as a consequence, most people on social media don’t really take any type of bullying generously. Fat Joe’s Facebook page after Brittany’s post turned into a major battlefield,” Tad said, pressuring him to shut it down. The thread from Brittany was never something he desired the diner to be engaged with. So just a day afterward, over a couple frightening emails were received by the company.

Fat Joe’s very often intends to be unbiased and also considerate, as per the owners. Thus according them, frequent customers at the diner are both the customers who decided to make the nasty comments as well as the person they were speaking about. And Tad also said never before had it been an issue between both the two different groups.

“If they felt they were being harassed, if they did, I apologize — that was never my intention. don’t want anyone to be harassed, but they do need to know that what they did was wrong. Everybody Is Welcome

After all of the public outcry, the diner seems to have been doubling down on its part. Tad said that everybody is welcomed by the diner, and that this evidently also involves arrogant clients who just like to verbally abuse other customers. “If you want to walk in our front door and you want to have our food or drinks, watch TV, watch live music we provide, we’re going to serve you as best we can and make you happy to your standards,” Wallender mentioned to WTMJ.

Unchecked Hate Speech

Brittany stated that she did not stir up any unpleasant will towards the Fat Joe’s or the owners of the establishment, but she hopes that the reaction they did receive online will start serving as a learning opportunity and that they’ll never let hate speech go unaddressed in the long run. “I hope this incident will open people’s eyes that hate like this is still occurring in 2019 and the idly standing by and spreading hate is just as bad as spreading it yourself,” she stated.
