King then mentioned George Shearing, a blind jazz pianist who once told him something profound. Shearing reportedly stated that being blind was not a handicap because it was all he knew. Wonder revealed that he knew Shearing as well and that he admired him.

Wonder agreed with Shearing’s perspective on his disability. He explained, “Yes. I mean, it’s definitely more difficult for someone who has seen and then lost their sight.” Keeping in mind that, as previously stated, Wonder was not born blind.
