Signing A Record Deal
Hardaway moved the family from Saginaw to Detroit, both in Michigan, when Wonder was only four years old. Her son grew up to be a talented young man in this environment. And it was the start of something big when Ronnie White of The Miracles discovered the 11-year-old Wonder. White arranged for the boy to meet with Berry Gordy Jr., the head of Motown Records. Wonder was then signed to a record deal by the mogul.
Starting At An Early Age
Wonder began working in the music industry at a young age! In fact, he released his first album before he reached the age of adolescence. The live album Little Stevie Wonder the 12-Year-Old Genius followed, with a title that may have seemed like a lot of hot air to some. But the young man would live up to that lofty reputation – even as he grew up blind.
