For any pregnant woman, the feelings that come with motherhood can be overwhelming. When Bethani Webb, a first-time mother, learned she was expecting quadruplets, her joy, fear, excitement, and trepidation were multiplied fourfold. And there was one more surprise in store for Bethani once she arrived in the delivery room. When the doctors examined her newborns more closely, they found something truly astonishing.

The Webbs are a common Canadian pair from Northern Alberta, and their relationship starts out like so many others. Tim and Bethani married in their early twenties, and like many other happily married couples, they began to consider having children.

But, as it turned out, things moved faster than they had anticipated. Bethani became pregnant soon after the Webbs’ wedding in June 2015. The couple had intended to wait at least a year before getting their first baby, but life happens while you’re getting ready, as they say. Regardless, it was wonderful – if unexpected – news for the couple, who were looking forward to starting their own family.

As a result, the first-time parents went to a routine scan the day before Christmas Night 2015. And it was at that point that the nurse delivered some unexpectedly good news. It’s not quite the early Christmas present the pair had hoped for, and as a result, they were totally taken aback.

When the nurse asked if the pair believed in any multiple births in both of their families, it was clear that something was wrong. The expectant couple declined, unaware of what would happen next. So it was at this point that the nurse pointed them to the monitor.

“She turns around to the screen and she says, ‘There’s one baby, there’s two, there’s three, there’s four…’” Bethani told Global News in Canada. “That’s when I just about fell over!” Tim added to the conversation.

When the happy couple told their families, they were as surprised as they were. It’s also understandable. As per Dr. James Bofill of the University of Mississippi, the chances of having quadruplets without fertility treatment are one in 729,000!

The childbirth went excellently, despite having to quadruple my preparations for the incomers. Throughout that time, the Webbs received more bad news: Tim would be severely outnumbered, as all four of their children were female! Bethani showed up at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, to prepare for the births.

Because Bethani was expecting quadruplets, doctors recommended a cesarean section at 33 weeks, and the mom-to-be gave birth to four adorable and healthy babies via cesarean. All were taken aback when each of the girls showed up, and the newborn babies were aligned next to each other.

If the chances of normally conception quadruplets are slim, the Webbs’ new finding was nothing short of a miracle. Because, amazingly, the four newborn girls were all identical – by a possibility of one in over 15 million.

“It was kind of like a magic show, because they’re pulling out one, two, three, four… It was kind of surreal.” The pair had to name their new arrivals after the miracle show ended, and they decided Emily, Grace, McKayla, and Abigail for their little girls.

As per the Edmonton Journal, the overjoyed father later stated, “I feel overwhelmingly awesome that the babies are here. I consider myself fortunate. You’re also relieved because you’re worried about multiple births. There are risks… but everything worked out perfectly.”

While multiple births may assume less sleep and more diapers, there’s really one significant advantage in terms of naming your children. “It was nice that we didn’t have to pick our favorites,” Bethani said to Global News. “We could pick four we liked, we didn’t have to choose just one.”

And it appears that naming the girls was a lot better than having to tell them apart. However, each girl was originally put in her own small incubator after birth, trying to make it a little easier to distinguish one quadruplet from others.

Differentiating the girls from outside the incubators, on the other hand, demonstrated a little more difficulty. “Right now I’m glad they’re separated so we can tell them apart. But even just holding two side-by-side, I can’t tell them apart at all.”

New mom Bethani, on the other hand, told CTV News that “their identities couldn’t be more dissimilar, which will help distinguish them in the future. Emily and McKayla were described as laid-back, while Abigail was described as feisty despite being the oldest. Grace, on the other hand, is kind of a character.”

However, now that they’ve returned home, the couple has devised a strategy to help them distinguish between each girl. With hair accessories and bracelets, Bethani, as well as Tim, will color scheme each one! They’ve even regarded decorating their toenails to distinguish themselves.

One mother of quads in San Francisco was desperate to find out. And while she and her family looked over the ancestry test results, they were taken aback.

That brings us to this fascinating tale. One San Francisco mom’s DNA test led her to undertake her own study after she obtained some shocking information about her ancestors. She really wants whether these DNA testing kits were as good as they claimed. And she’d put the precision of the findings to the test with her own quadruplets.

Amy Jones informed San Francisco’s KPIX 5 that she assumed it “might be kind of fun” to find out where her family came from. She used Ancestry DNA, a website that enables people to create an online account, sends in a test tube full of saliva for analysis, and then earn their genes information via email.

And she was taken aback by the results she got. She recalled, “I called my mother, I called my father, and I said, ‘Listen, we’re Irish!” she recalled. “And they said, ‘Are we really?’ And I said, ‘That’s what it says. So, I’m assuming that’s right.’”

Even with the outcome in hand, Jones wasn’t convinced that the genetic testing was as precise as she had hoped. That’s why she came up with a plan to confirm her DNA findings with the assist of her four children, all of whom were multiples.

Jones’s four children are, in fact, quadruplets. Gabe and Seth are identical twins, while Hugh and Katie are fraternal twins, and they were both born at the same time. The Jones Quad Squad is made up of them all. They also provided four sets of collective DNA that could be used to estimate the validity of two websites: Ancestry DNA and 23andMe.

“You would expect there to be differences, and I would have been very surprised if this had come back without any.” She stated that while identical twins are born with very similar DNA, fraternal twins have more genetic variations because one of them may inherit more DNA from one parent than the other.

Jones could also finally relax about her own DNA rundown, which she had previously questioned, now that she had the outcome of her quadruplets. “It makes me feel a little bit more certain about the test results,” she said.

Ballard cautioned, “I do caution people to look at those privacy settings and decide how much information they want to give,” A family historic test, on the other hand, could be intriguing for those who are doubtful of their ancestors if they think about it carefully. Jones expressed similar sentiments, saying, “I thought that might be kind of fun to know where I come from.”
