Director Tim Burton was once interviewed by Rolling Stone magazine on the set of Edward Scissorhands. During the interview, he said Depp was like Edward, perceived as something he is not. Burton even admitted that he perceived Depp as the Difficult Heartthrob stereotype, but there was actually more to the boy, which made his role as Edward very personal.
