Jake was still having a hard time dealing with the passing of his true love when he discovered that the pregnancy with Lizz was not as successful as they had expected. Lizz persisted two more times but ended up stopping when it was evident that there was no point. He was very thankful for Liz Begg and how selfless she had been for doing the most for them. He wouldn’t let the emotional pain devour him, despite his misery.
