They might have been separated before, but college was a different ballgame. They wanted to remain together but had different plans for college. “Right after we graduated from high school, we were pretty hesitant,” Laura explained to People. “We were like, ‘Do we stay together? Do we try to make it work?’”

They did not want the other to miss out on a unique college experience, however. Matt planned to go to Columbia College in Chicago, whereas Laura wanted to go to Northern Arizona University. The schools were 1,600 miles apart!
