Carly Patterson – Then
In the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Carly Patterson brought home the all-around gold. However, her win had been overshadowed by her performance in the team competition. The US team had been unable to defend its gold medal that year. Doctors also diagnosed her with a couple of bulging discs in the back. In the end, she was told to retire. Otherwise, she might suffer grave problems with mobility.
