The Design Was Different
As Gerald took a closer look at the enclosure, he could immediately tell that it was not a bomb shelter designed by Sir John Anderson. But, it was true that the structure had been built sometime around 1938. This was somewhat close to the time of the bombings near Luton. People who had been living in the area were terrified after hearing that the small town had become a target. This is why many of them wanted to assure they would also be safe and protected, no matter what came their way.

This was when the community decided to get together and summarize a plan to build a communal shelter. All the people who lived in the area were determined to build something strong enough to be able to sustain any air raids. Simon’s dad was so sure that this was not a typical Anderson-style bunker, only because it had two rooms. Additionally, both concrete and bricks were used. But the searching wasn’t over, the deeper they dug, the began to find several artifacts.
