When a female character loses the object of her affection, she goes crazy and occasionally tries to kill him. Fatal Attraction has given us a phrase to describe such a character: “the bunny boiler.” The flick mixed it up by equipping the obsessive woman with superpowers. Glenn Close is not happy that she helped give birth to this concept. In 2017, she shared with the New York Times that the movie ending “[made] a character [she] loved into a murdering psychopath.” It is worth noting, however, that other movies have relied on this stereotype such as My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

Have you ever heard of the Bechdel Test? Named after illustrator and concept creator Alison Bechdel, it is a threshold used to see how a movie treats its female characters. To pass this test, female characters have to discuss something apart from a man. It might sound like a low bar, but there are plenty of movies that fail to accomplish this. Even Twilight does not clear i. While female-led films do better in general, some of them could have done even more. For one thing, people think that La La Land fails since the names of the majority of the female characters are shown only in the credits.
