Maria Bello
Most of the story happens in the bar called Coyote Ugly, which is why it is also the film’s title. The owner of the bar was the tough-as-nails Lil Lovell. The character was played by Maria Bello, who managed to strike a balance between being strong and genuine. Being the boss of an establishment full of rowdy men, she needed to have thick skin. Lovell was an empowered character who knew how to stand her ground and keep everybody in check.

Shortly after Coyote Ugly, Maria Bello was cast in the long-running TV show NCIS. She plays forensic psychologist Jacqueline “Jack” Sloane, another empowered woman unafraid of holding her own among men. You may have spotted her in Prime Suspect and Goliath as well, but she’s better known for her role in the 2005 film A History of Violence. Aside from that, she starred in The Jane Austen Book Club, alongside Emily Blunt, and The Cooler, alongside William H. Macy.
