It was the 1936 Olympic Games, and they were being hosted in Nazi-Occupied Germany. It was a tough decision for the Amateur Athletic Union of whether or not it was a good decision for the US to partake in the Berlin competition. Eventually, it was decided that American athletes would take part, but in a smaller capacity. The Civil Rights groups asked him not to compete, but Owens was determined and wanted to show off his skills. Upon arriving in Berlin, he received a cold welcome. Viewers made fun of him and he was certainly the victim of poor treatment. In the end he made everyone regret their words, having won four gold medals! This is the most won by any American for track and field events.

Winston Churchill And Charlie Chaplin Were Friends
Churchill was actually a huge Charlie Chaplin fan. Politically, the pair differed in views, but they held admiration for each other for sure. Churchill even invited Chaplin to be his guest to Chartwell more than once! Upon visiting the U.S in 1929, the pair spent some time together. Having attended a party hosted by William Randolph Hearst, they had dinner at the Bitmore Hotel. Chpalin returned to England after the City Lights premiere, he and Churchill had dinner at Churchill’s home residence. Together they played with the children and had a good laugh about politics.
