By the time Jessica boarded her train, she was completely exhausted. She expected some crowding, but she planned to find a seat to rest for the hour-and-a-half ride ahead of her. In search of an open seat, she pushed her way past people in the aisle. She paced aimlessly through the carriages until she came across one.

That was the final carriage to arrive. There was an empty seat next to a young woman. She looked around at the people who were still standing, puzzled as to why no one had taken the spot. It appeared to be in good condition, aside from a bag on the seat. She approached the young lady and requested a seat. She was completely unaware of what was about to happen to her.
