Beards
Amish men are known to grow a beard but no mustache. But it is not necessary to clean-shave. Their faith prohibits them from growing a mustache, but beards are acceptable because, according to them, it is written in the scripture. Their Bible says that men are supposed to be adorned with them.
Believer’s Baptism
To grow into spiritual maturity and be entirely accepted in the Amish society, one must express his faith and commitment by being baptized in water. This custom came from Anabaptists, who believe that baptism is valid only when candidates freely confess their faith in Christ and request to be baptized. This believer’s baptism is opposed to the baptism of infants, who cannot make a conscious decision to be baptized.
