Quick Microwave Meals You Can Make Right In Your Dorm Room

When you’re living in a dorm room, it can be challenging to come up with new and exciting meals to eat without having to spend a lot of money ordering them. The good news is that if you have a microwave, you can make a whole array of meals in just a matter of minutes! Whether you’re craving sweet or savory, you’ll find inspiration in this list of quick and easy microwave meals.

French Toast

What you need for this recipe is 2 slices of bread, an egg, a tablespoon of butter, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Grab a large mug and melt the butter in the microwave for around 30 seconds. Roll it around in the cup to coat the sides well. In the mug, whisk the egg with a fork. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and add the vanilla before mixing it all together. Then, cut or tear the bread into bite-size pieces and add it to the egg mixture in the mug. Press the bread down into the egg. Allow the mix to sit for a minute before microwaving it on high for 30 seconds at a time. Repeat until the egg is cooked through. Normally, it takes about 90 seconds in total. Top it with the syrup of your choice.

Scrambled Eggs

Keeping with the breakfast theme, this dish is delicious and simple. It’s a classic! All you need is 2 eggs, a tablespoon of shredded cheese, a tablespoon of milk or water, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper. If you’d like, you can add some veggies as well. Beat the eggs in a large mug before adding the milk or water. Mix it all together. Add the cheese and veggies before mixing again. Microwave it for 30 seconds and stir. Microwave it again for another 30 seconds and stir. For the last 30 seconds, cook it again – if it still looks runny, cook it for 15 seconds longer. Top with salt and pepper and enjoy!

Mac and Cheese

What you’ll need: 1/3 cup of pasta, 3/4 cup of cold water, 4 tablespoons of milk, 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch, 4 tablespoons of grated cheddar cheese, and salt and pepper. Add the macaroni and water into a large mug. Microwave it for about 3.5 minutes – you want the pasta to be fully cooked. Pour out the remaining cooking water. Stir in the milk, cheese, and cornstarch and microwave it for another 60 seconds. Stire it well and season with salt and pepper.

Pizza

This recipe requires a little more work than the others, but it’s totally worth it! You’ll need 4 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 1/8 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/16 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/8 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons milk, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon marinara sauce, 1 heaping tablespoon of shredded mozzarella cheese, 5 mini pepperonis, and 1/2 a teaspoon of dried Italian herbs. Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a microwavable mug. Add the milk and oil before mixing – it’s okay if there are some lumps. Spoon on the marinara sauce and spread it over the surface of the batter. Sprinkle on the cheese, pepperoni, and dried herbs. Microwave for 1 minute and 10 or 20 seconds, or until the pizza rises and the toppings are bubbling. Serve and enjoy!
