College is an exciting transition in students’ lives. An opportunity to grow and develop into mature young adults. For the first time in our lives, we are not constrained by our parents’ rules and we are free to live independently. Making decisions for ourselves, leaving a shirt on the floor, NOT making the bed, and choosing what WE want to eat. These are the years that can shape our future, but it’s important not to get too caught up in the hectic routine that we forget to take care of ourselves. Neglecting your health can negatively impact your studies and hard work, so it’s important to rest well, exercise regularly, and always eat well. Keep these suggestions in mind to have happy and successful college years!

Don’t Skip Breakfast

People tend to ignore that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But it’s true. Speaking from first-hand experience, breakfast speeds up your metabolism and provides you with enough fuel for the day. You’ll find yourself actually paying attention in class and smiling all day long. If you can’t handle a full omelet, then try a quick and light smoothie recipe!

Workout First Thing In The Morning

Starting your day with a workout can be the momentum you need to sustain you through the day. Not only does it provide you with energy and boost your overall mood, but it also relieves the pain and annoyance of having to go to the gym after a long day. Just get that out of the way instead of trying to cram it in after class! Stop saying you don’t have time, and instead get out there and make the time!

Make Sleep A Priority

Sleep is the most important part of the day, yet we take it for granted. This habit is especially sacrificed in college. Studies even show that students who sleep better will have better memory recall, decision making, and improved concentration! You can stop feeling drowsy all day long, while also improving your grades! There’s absolutely no better combination.

Monitor Alcohol Consumption

It is unrealistic to say that college students won’t be out partying on the weekends. This is the chance to go out, meet people, and enjoy being young. Most of the time these interactions involve alcohol, and if you’re 21 that’s okay! The problem is that that sometimes too much partying can actually affect your health.
